Note: The following review is written by Zaza Siamashvili, a former Soviet dissident who was
imprisoned in the Soviet gulag during the Cold War. In the Name of God, On Behalf of People By ZAZA SIAMASHVILI For historians he will be always 'a political leader, US President and an actor,' political leaders will remember him as 'an uncompromising and staunch colleague or adversary with an exquistely amiable soul and reassuring voice, a good friend and soulmate." But how, the ordinary people will record his name in their minds and hearts? How will 'we, the people' think and reflect when thinking about Ronald Reagan, who served as President of the great superpower and who led the people during the most tumultuous years since FDR? And not only ded he led the American people, but the nations in every corner of the world. As someone who experienced the fate to be a captive citizen of the Evil Empire and who happens to be an author of these lines, I think that Ronald Reagan has already gained the primary place in our minds and hearts. To many of us he embodied the genuine faith in God, or as he liked to say, "A Big Fella Upstairs." He was a light, not just a gleaming one, but a shining light on the Shining City On A Hill. The life, the most powerful playwright of the mankind, gave Reagan distinguished roles on its stage, starting from an amateur actor who became a professional acting on the stage or the screen, a life-guard, a radio commentator, a governor, a president of SAG and then when most people retire and prefer to sit in the rocking chair, the Actor had to play a president of his own country, but that was a real life play! "I have never played a president" he joked. And this was a test given to this aged man who had to face a beast. While many doubted, he persevered, while many feared, - he acted! And he acted as an actor, and he saved as a life-guard! At the age of 69 he was the eldesr president ewver to occupy the White House, but the age was a privilege for him that he never exploited "for poluitcal purposes [his] opponent's youth and inexperience. He carried on this creed everywhere and with everyone and therefore he managed to make his enemies turn into his friends. Gorbachov, exactly 20 years younger, his adversary at the Geneva summit and later at Reykjavik, became his friend as Reagan stood in the heart of the Evil Empire, facing the Kremlin, the fortress of the Beast!. Gorbachov knew that Reagan's life was a providential life. Ronald Reagan found himself alone as he launched his struggle against communism. He was destined to tell the truth in the face of evil and the movie by the same title, a brilliant production by Leo McWatkins and Bannon Films, based on Peter Scweizer's acclaimed bestseller REagan's War, tells this story about defeating the beast in its own den, in its own fortress, putting the dagger in the heart, but letting out no blood. The beast was not a janus-faced, it had more faces than just two and Reagan saw its faces throughtout his career - bolshevism, nazism, fascism, communism, terrorism, totalitarianism, they all were doomed to fade away when Reagan spoke his mind and when "they" saw that Cowboy President's words and deeds never, never took different paths! "Evil is powerless if the good are unafraid" said President and his European colleagues looked toward Washington to seek that courage as they doubted! Reagan knew that communism would be dispatched to the ashheap of the history and that freedom, prosperity would be gained only by ballots and not bullets. The Great Communicator became the Great Liberator for millions in the prisons, in camps and Gulags, and even at their homes! "IN THE FACE OF EVIL" is an epic movie about moral courage and faith. As a brilliant example of the exemplary leadership, Reagan's presidency has never been displayed so succinctly as in this movie. This is not a merely documentry movie, it also contains the elements of a feature movie and the narration makes it as such.Stephen K.bannon and Julia Jones wrote a wonderful text for the narrator. Our thanks should go to Jason Bloom (editor), Chris Beutler (line producer) and Daniel Fleuette (Assoc. Producer). I believe that this movie should be shown to the people of the world and prmarily to the nations of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe who suffered 'blessing and beauties' of the Beast. Psalm 37 tells us "Future of that man is peace" and Ronald Reagan who sought peace for the mankind, will look above onto us and guide us as we will also happen to defeat the Beast 'in the name of God and on behalf of people. Ronald Reagan is a son of peace on this Earth and a true, dedicated servant and disciple of the Big Fella Upstairs! The movie "IN THE FACE OF EVIL" is a successful visual story of the Great Prsident, Great Communicator and Great Liberator, and the Man who was just one of us who gave us privilege to share the world and time with him! |
